Flat earth conspiracy theorists believe that the earth is flat rather than spherical or oblate spheroidal as scientific evidence suggests. They argue that the concept of a round earth is a hoax perpetuated by a global conspiracy of scientists, governments, and other powerful organizations to maintain control over the population. Here are some key points to know about the flat earth conspiracy theory:

The sun is the closest star to Earth and the source of life-giving energy for our planet. Despite centuries of scientific study and observation, some individuals and groups still cling to the notion that the Earth is flat and that the sun orbits around a stationary Earth. Flat Earthers often make claims about the nature of the sun that are not supported by scientific evidence. Here are ten bullet points that provide a summary of what we know about the sun based on scientific research:
Overall, the scientific research on the sun provides a wealth of evidence about its nature and behavior, and strongly supports the conclusion that the sun is a star that follows the laws of physics and orbits around the center of the solar system, rather than a flat disc that revolves around a stationary Earth. The moon landing was a historic event that has captured the imagination of people around the world for decades. However, some individuals and groups have raised doubts and conspiracy theories about the authenticity of the moon landing. Despite these claims, there is overwhelming evidence that the moon landing was real and a major achievement of human exploration and technology. Here are ten bullet points that provide evidence for the authenticity of the moon landing:
The formula 8 inches per mile squared is often cited by flat Earth proponents as a way to calculate the supposed drop in height that should occur over a given distance on a spherical Earth. However, this formula is flawed and not a great measure squared for several reasons:
Motivations Behind False Information eg "Flat Earth"
Compiled for Livestream 3/9/2023 M.B There have been many studies conducted on why people choose to promote false information, and the reasons can vary depending on the individual and the context. Some of the common reasons identified by research include: 1. Confirmation bias: People tend to seek out information that confirms their existing beliefs, and ignore information that contradicts them. 2. Social influence: People are influenced by the opinions and behaviors of their social network, and may be more likely to promote false information if they believe it is widely accepted by others. 3. Motivated reasoning: People may be motivated to promote false information in order to achieve a particular goal, such as gaining power, influence, or financial gain. 4. Emotional reasoning: People may promote false information because they feel strongly about a particular issue or topic, and are more likely to believe information that supports their emotional stance. 5. Lack of critical thinking skills: People may not have the necessary skills or knowledge to critically evaluate information, and may promote false information as a result. 6. Dunning-Kruger effect: This is a cognitive bias where people who have low ability or knowledge in a particular area tend to overestimate their competence and skills in that area. This can lead to the spread of false information and conspiracy theories by individuals who are not aware of their own limitations or lack of expertise. These individuals may also be more susceptible to confirmation bias, which is the tendency to seek out information that confirms one's preexisting beliefs while ignoring information that contradicts them. 7. Cognitive dissonance: People may promote false information as a way to resolve conflicting religious beliefs or attitudes. 8. Backfire Effect: Backfire effect: This is a cognitive bias where people who are presented with information that contradicts their beliefs may actually become more entrenched in those beliefs, rather than changing their minds. This can happen when the new information threatens people's sense of identity, values, or worldview. The backfire effect can make it difficult to correct false information, as attempts to do so may actually reinforce people's beliefs, rather than correcting them. These are just a few examples of the many factors that can influence why people choose to promote false information. Understanding these factors can help to develop strategies to combat false information and promote more accurate and reliable information. Some doubters egregiously spout false information related to what we know as settled science, which are the basic building blocks of how we build, create, engineer and predict things. You know they are lying because they only "ask questions" and never have any receipts and their cult is their only source. Many declare their truth/victory through incredulity ("That can't possibly be the case") or bold face misstatement of fact. The way cults work - "Everyone else is wrong" Feel free to peruse this site for detailed, secular scientific proof to the contrary to the lies and lack of information they use as talking points.

You can always contact me if you would like to contribute an article here or if you have any questions: mike[at]mikesplained.com Here are just a few to be aware of: How does water stay on the ball? This is one of the most questioined things that are asked. We know, in fact, that water does stay on the "ball" and here's why. Gravity, which is larger mass attracting smaller mass, is a fundament force. In fact it is on of the most well understood forces of any known force. This is what holds water to the earth, much like it holds other things like your car, YOU and everything else around you. How does air exist next to a vaccum? Another commonly asked question Air, much like water, has mass. Therefore it is drawn to the planet by gravity and it exists in a gradient. Most dense at the earth's surface graduation to a very thin layer as you move away from the earth. If you consider mountains, the air is much thinner at the top than it is at the bottom. The moon landing was faked or Space is fake. Hard to believe but yes, flat earthers will claim just this. The main "Proof" they cite is from a fictitonal movie about Stanley Kubick. Unfortunately for them it was, in fact, the only fake movie here. We have a multitude of reasons to never doubt the moon landing, including factors such as many thousands for film photos, film videos, advanced retro-reflector arrays that we can still interact with today. There were some 600-800 pounds of lunar rocks brought back to earth. There are visible evidence taken by orbiters. Russia and China have acknowled the activity and have even collaborated on many accounts with the space program and ISS program.
